Desert in Bloom" acrylic on canvas board

JANE ALDEN, Bryn Athyn, Pennsylvania
Born 1920

"On Christmas Day of 1985, my children gave me a box of acrylic paints, saying - 'You watch the art shows on TV all the time, now start painting!' It took four months before I had the courage to open a tube of paint and begin using them. As a student I had loved sketching with paper and pencil, but was afraid of color...At the age of sixty-six, I began painting. I have sold eighty-two pictures and given away more than that amount...Today, I am taking lessons in making three dimensional artifacts with hardening clay. It is great fun. I am now seventy-seven and thankful that I have had this opportunity to work in the art field."
