NEBA has exhibited in more than twenty-five prestigious museums
and
galleries over the past thirty years in America and abroad.
NEBA has
given serious consideration to the cost and risk of shipping
an exhibition from
museum to museum throughout a yearlong tour.
In this burgeoning electronic age, we believe now is the time to
make a bold move from
limited physical space to cyberspace -- from
the traditional museum to
the Virtual Museum.
The Virtual Museum
Tour is targeting the following populations:
Sighted Public. One of NEBA's purposes is to break down the stereotypical
view of a blind artist creating only three-dimensional work
such
as sculpture,
and not two-dimensional work such as painting.
Although ten percent (10%)
of the blind community is totally
blind, 90%
have limited visual perception or limited field of vision and
may have the ability to create two-dimensional art. NEBA aims
to demonstrate
to the public the value and excitement of art by
the blind, thus
helping to create
a market for this work.
Blind Community. Many visually impaired artists began losing
their
sight
after they were old enough to be out of the educational
system.
NEBA is
eager to reach out to members of the blind community
to encourage them
to pursue a calling in art or to resume a
career in art
that may have been interrupted by the trauma
of a visual
disability.
Blindness Professionals. Many blindness professionals and educators
still retain the stereotypical view that art and blindness
do not mix. NEBA
seeks to enlighten those who influence the
self-concepts
of the blind.
Gallery Owners/Museum Professionals. By means
of the Virtual Museum Tour, it is our intention to offer wide exposure
to artwork by
blind artists with
the intention of expanding the market
for sales.
